The Philadelphia 100-Mile UltraRun (Philly 100 UltraRun or Philly-100,) is beginner friendly, but you must qualify. The course is an 8.4 mile, all paved path loop, (on the Kelly Drive side of the water there is a nice small dirt path that runs next to the paved trail.) The course is 100% open to other runners, walkers and bicyclists (usually not a huge concern). Again, there WILL be other runners and walkers on the path. Be aware of vehicular traffic, there are turnouts/parking lots along the course. In addition, you cross a road in front of the Art Museum. Exercise caution here especially once deep into the run. You must LOOK BOTH WAYS and exercise caution AT ALL TIMES with all road crossings and lot crossings. As a word of caution assume they won't see you! You are on your own on the course and it is 100% your responsibility. All entrants must confirm 100% liability release.
Because this is a FREE run. we are technically not supplying aid (ie this is a self-supported run..bring your own stuff.) However, we plan on ONE community table setup at 4.2 mile marker. We would appreciate any run aid you contribute to the community table, but it's not mandatory. You have all done races with aid stations. Simple things go a long way. A bag of chips, pretzels, candy (esp for the run organizer who likes Skittles & Reese Cups), fruit, soda, etc.
Mandatory entry requirements:
For acceptance into the Philadelphia 100-Mile UltraRun, you MUST have completed AT LEAST a 50K.
We HIGHLY recommend a longer race (50M or 100K.)
The 100-Mile and the 100-K distance are a LONG way to run.
If you don't have experience, you WILL seriously injure yourself. You will also significantly increase your chance of a successful-finish of the course if you have a 50-Mile or 100K-Finish already under your belt. The minimum requirement is completion of a 50K -- no exceptions!
(We're sorry but 26.2-mile finishes do not qualify -- please do not ask.)
The 100-Mile run and the 100-K begin at 6:00 am Saturday. The course will be open until 1 pm on Sunday. That gives all entrants 31 hours to finish. In years past, some entrants wish to sit, rest, nap, socialize, after their finish, others simply drive to their destination after they done. Please do what is best for you -- everyone in the community understands.
The weather in Philly this time of year varies. Again, you're all experienced and qualified ultramarathoners, you know what to expect. Look at weather.com and be prepared for anything. If you train in every condition, you won't be surprised by anything on run day.
For those worried about this being an "official race", we keep official times and results, the course is marked, we have course-marshals, and results WILL be displayed/published.
